Requirements

Applicants to the UCAPP program must have:

  • A completed master’s degree from an accredited institution and a teacher’s license recognized by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • They must also have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, or other creditable experience for service, in a public school recognized by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Please note that GRE and other standardized test scores are not required for admission to UCAPP.

Admission Timelines

Online Pathway

  • Application deadline: November 1
  • Candidate screenings: Occur within 2-3 weeks of the application deadline. The admissions committee will select qualified candidates from the pool of applicants for screening. Recommendations for admission to UCAPP will be made to the UConn Graduate School after all candidates have been screened.
  • Admission decisions: Early December
  • Orientation: January

Hybrid Pathway

UCAPP's Hybrid Pathway offers three rolling admission deadlines throughout the year, all for summer admission. We encourage prospective students to apply early:

  • Fall deadline: November 15
  • Winter deadline: March 1
  • Spring deadline (if space remains): May 1
  • Candidate screenings: Occur within 2-3 weeks of each application deadline. The admissions committee will select qualified candidates from the pool of applicants for screening. Recommendations for admission to UCAPP will be made to the UConn Graduate School after all candidates have been screened.
  • Admission decisions: Early January (Nov. 15 applicants); April (March 1 applicants); late May (May 1 applicants)
  • Orientation: June

Application Instructions

Complete the online application to the Graduate School by November 1 (Online Pathway) or November 15, March 1, or May 1 (Hybrid Pathway) of the application year.

When completing the online application form, under Intended Program, please select:

  • Levels of Study: 6th Year Certificate
  • Academic Areas: Education 
  • Program: UConn Administrator Preparation Program UCAPP 6th year Certificate
  • Campus: Hartford (For both pathways. This is simply for the Graduate School's coding purposes.)
  • Entry Term: Spring 2027 (for the Online Pathway) or Summer 2027 (for the Hybrid Pathway)

When selecting an advisor, please designate Dr. Richard Gonzales.

Within the application, please write on one of the following prompts and in the heading specify whether you are applying to the Online or Hybrid Pathway:

  1. Based on your personal and professional experience, identify and describe 2-3 qualities that define the type of school leader you aim to be.
  2. OR Describe a personal or professional challenge you have overcome and how that experience can serve you well as a leader.

Please provide names and contact information for the following (4) people. The application system will send each of them a link to upload a letter of recommendation:

  • 1 central office administrator
  • 1 building principal or assistant principal
  • 2 professional colleagues

For International Transcripts: Prospective students with international transcripts must get a Course-by-Course transcript evaluation by one of the approved evaluators listed on the Connecticut State Department of Education website. If your degree is a 3-year bachelor’s degree from India, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, Scotland or certain other countries, the UConn Graduate School will not consider the degree to be equivalent with a 4-year U.S. bachelor’s degree, even if the degree has been evaluated as a 4-year degree by an outside credential evaluator.
